Astrid Graf

Originally from the Seychelles Islands I joined African Eyes Travel in 2006.

My love for Africa was born the day I joined the company!
Anita Forsyth, the founder of the company who is from South Africa, enthralled me with her stories, anecdotes and knowledge of Southern Africa. This wonderful part of the world has so much to offer. Many past clients have come back totally touched by the warmth of the people and their cultures, the beauty of the land and the wildlife. It is vast and varied and there is so much to do.

Let us custom build your dream African Trip for you! We specialize in FIT and small groups.

We plan your trip around your interests, and your budget and length of stay. We have a great team of professional and very knowledgeable guides and representatives who will be with you throughout your trip. We put these trips, so your accommodations (luxury or budget) are carefully chosen to make sure you get a good “mix” of places to stay. Those properties will range from the Ultra Luxury Hotels to Boutique Hotels and Guesthouses with charm. All will be well-located, clean and safe. Your hosts are warm and welcoming and always go the extra mile. We invite you to our offices for an interview with us. (Conference calls and emails work well too for those outside of Denver). This way we can talk about your particular interests, available time for the trip and your budget.

For those who prefer to travel in small groups, we will be glad to arrange something specific just for your small group. Enjoy your travels in beautiful Africa!

Zulu Nyala Video

One of our favorite add-on trips arranged by Astrid was to Elephant Camp in Zimbabwe. The accommodations and gourmet meals were great, and the sunrises and sunsets were gorgeous. Not only did we get to see the spectacular Victoria Falls, one of the natural wonders of the world, take a sunset dinner cruise down the Zambia River, but we also got to have a daily encounter with Sylvester, the house cheetah. Sylvester is one of the few cheetahs to survive being rescued and raised outside of his natural habitat. My wife Rhonda bonded with him instantly. Elephant Camp in Zimbabwe was a bucket list experience. Thank you Astrid.

What our Guests Say:

Randy and I had a great time, and all the hard work and planning that you did paid off. The game lodge Zulu Nyala was wonderful and the people could not have been nicer. Our guide for the week Bernadett did a great job of helping with the mission of photographing the game, she is also an avid photographer so that help a lot. Craig from Rhino tours was fantastic he met us on out last night at Zulu Nyala as planned and we talked about the rest of the journey. He was able to be flexible with the itinerary so that we had lots of time photographing game and that was very much appreciated. The Kwa Mbili Game Lodge was perfect, just small enough to make it enjoyable and not be overcrowded on the game drives. The staff and meals were fantastic Over all I think we would give African Eyes and Rhino Tours an A. And highly recommended other use your company for their African travel plans. Doran.

Thanks, Astrid! We did have a wonderful time! Everything you organized was great. We really loved Zulu Nyala, our guide, and all the outside trips. We really enjoyed the outside of the reserve day trips, like the St. Lucia river tour(Phil swam in the Indian Ocean) and the Elephant Encounter at Bayette. We found out that the larger game reserves don’t do the outside trips so we were so glad that we were at Zulu Nyala. We got the rare chance of seeing a leopard—twice! Our guide was so excited that he drove off road and got a flat tire. We were thrilled with all the animals we got to see. Parker Cottage was great and staff was so helpful. All the flights that you organized in Africa were well-timed and went well. We saw some people struggle and stress over flights because they didn’t time it right for customs, etc. We attended an African service on Easter morning before our flight. It was a great way to end our time in Africa. Janet and Phil R

We had a FANTASTIC time

We had an amazing adventure! Thank you for the lovely itinerary and seamless arrangements. South Africa and Victoria Falls have hooked our hearts and souls. I’ll try to give you a concise recap:

As novice safari goers we thoroughly enjoyed Zulu Nyala. Beautiful setting and plentiful animals. We’d like to adopt our guide, Philemon, but he has a family of his own. His calm demeanor, knowledge, judgement and kindness greatly endeared him to us. We’ll miss him. Room and staff were quite good. We enjoyed the pool daily. Our only complaint might be the facilities expansion adjacent to the restaurant. Not a big deal. Most meals were good. Lunches were hit or miss. We were well fed overall.

We went on all game drives and added the elephant interaction, St. Lucia cruise, and cheetah rescue excursions. All well worth the effort.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you… for arranging an absolutely lovely itinerary.

Dear Astrid ~

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you… for arranging an absolutely lovely itinerary. South Africa is breathtaking! We were beyond satisfied, and all of the people who helped along the way — from the airport drivers (particularly Lori who provided a sense of calm and warmth the day we were leaving ZN and educated us about SA/Zulu history on the way to the airport) to Rudi, our magnificent ZN safari guide, to Alan and Dominic over at Cape22, and to dearest Vince, who was a pleasure to learn from and a joy to explore Cape Town with — only enhanced our experiences and helped cement unforgettable memories in all of us.

As you can imagine, we have lots (i.e. thousands) of pics. Attached are a few we wanted to share with you. (Just sorry we didn’t get a pic with Lori.) Please do extend another gracious thanks to everyone for us.

It was great!

Astrid, We are writing to express our appreciation for a wonderful trip. Everything went well and the people you picked to help us along the way were wonderful.  First Zulu Nyala was great. The accommodations were very comfortable, the food was good and plentiful, and the staff very helpful. Our Ranger was a young man named Ruan. He was exceptional.  He had a vast knowledge of the plants and animals and a delightful sense of humor.

Lori Kelly made the long drive to Durban a real delight. She really knew the history and was able to explain it in a way the even Americans could understand.  She was very helpful at the airport. We have already expressed our positive feelings for Vincent.

What can we say about Dom and Allan at 22? They made us feel part of the household. They did not expect our late departure on Tuesday but let us use our room until 730PM. They answered every question and assisted us in every way. We thank you for a wonderful job well done. If any of my fellow Rotarians purchase Zulu Nyala I will recommend you.

We had an absolutely fabulous time!

We so enjoyed our trip.  Everything was perfect and your suggestions for accommodations were spot on!!! We loved everything:  Vince was a great guide (by the way he sends his regards) extremely patient answering our million questions about everything and anything. The staff at Kensington place was so efficient:  we did not have the time to finish a request and it was done!  The place is absolutely lovely. The Victoria Falls River Lodge is an amazing place and we were treated like royalty. We definitely will be using your services again, should we go back to Africa and are already recommending your agency to all our friends.

Thanks you again.

South Africa

Traveling to the “Rainbow Nation “is to venture into a world of colors, landscapes, languages, cultures and wildlife. The land is vast and varied from thick coastal forests to dry sandy deserts and everything in between.  South Africa is famous for its sunshine. Highlights here are Cape Town and her winelands, the golden beaches of Durban and the East Coast, and many National Parks and Game Reserve, Kruger, being the most famous. There is so much to do here- South Africa will surely enthral you.

Botswana is an unspoiled land of timeless beauty – striking salt pans, diamond-rich deserts, fertile flood plains, vast grasslands, and flatlands punctuated with dramatic rocky outcrops.

The country’s natural appeal lies in stunning and seemingly endless wilderness, prolific wildlife, cultural diversity, and welcoming people.  It is truly one of Africa’s top safari destinations, teeming with game and bird-life. Botswana is famous as a 5 star safari destination. The landscape is varied from the Central Kalahari to the vast Chobe National Park and the jewel of Botswana’s crown -The Okavango Delta. Wildlife, especially elephants around here.

Namibia, is distinguished by the Namib Desert along its Atlantic Ocean coast. The country is home to diverse wildlife, including a significant cheetah population Etosha National Park’s salt pan draws game including rhinos and giraffes. Climb the highest sand dunes in the world. Descend to the floor of the deepest canyon in Africa

Zimbabwe & Zambia

Start off with a stay at Victoria Falls in either Zambia or Zimbabwe.

Here you can enjoy game drives, river cruises, canoe safaris and guided walks. Venture further to Hwange National Park Mana Pools, the gateway to the wild lower Zambezi.

In Zambia Kafue National Park, South Luangwa, and Lower Zambezi offer an exceptional safari experience- excellent big game viewing hardly any other vehicles around.

Masai Mara National Reserve offers breathtaking views and a chance to see Kenya’s “big five. The Masai Mara is the best park to visit to enjoy the spectacular annual wildebeest migration. Also worth a visit is Amboseli National Park. Located 160 miles from Nairobi, the park offers a stunning view of both Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Meru.

Here you can enjoy an eclectic array of animals, including large herds of elephants, and wildlife habitats, such as swamps, from atop The Observation Hill.

The Serengeti, National park -Home to the Great Migration, the Serengeti easily makes its way into most bucket lists. The sheer diversity of wildlife makes it one of the most unique national parks in Africa. Also in Tanzania the Ngorongoro Crater which is teeming with wildlife- here you are almost guaranteed to see the all of the “Big 5 “ in one day. The lowlights of those two National Parks are that they get very crowded during the Peak Season.

Venture further to the quieter parks in the Southern Circuit-they are less visited and more remote but equally appealing for a safari. The parks include Ruaha National Park, Saadani National Park, Selous Game Reserve, Mikumi National Park and Udzungwa Mountains National Park.

Rwanda and Uganda & DMC

These are the only countries in the whole world, you can only see the mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. Other highlights are the Chimpanzees, Golden Monkeys and Colobus Monkeys.

End your safari with a relaxing stay at one of the Indian Ocean Islands. Zanzibar, Madagascar, Seychelles and Mauritius…Enjoy diving and snorkeling in the crystal clear warm waters. Soak up the sun on one of Seychelles’ pristine white beaches. This is the ultimate way to end your Africa Trip- total relaxation and on any one of those Pearls of the Indian Ocean.
